Not sure whether your dental problem constitutes an emergency? Here’s what you need to know.
Knowing what a dental emergency is and what isn’t can make the difference when it comes to saving a tooth and keeping your smile intact. The following at the most common signs that emergency dental care is required:
Swelling
Bleeding
Excruciating pain
Pus coming from your teeth or gums
A cracked, loose or broken tooth
A tooth that has been knocked out
Knocked-out teeth are extremely common, especially among children. The good news is that with urgent treatment, it may be possible to reimplant it.
If you are experiencing any of the issues listed above, contact us now to schedule your emergency appointment.
There are things that you can do at home to help in a dental emergency, before you come in to see our team.
These include taking over-the counter pain relief such as anti-inflammatory medications to help alleviate pain and swelling, using warm or cold compresses against the side of your face and trying to rest as much as possible. Don’t take aspirin as it contains blood-thinning ingredients that could make your condition worse.
Teeth may be strong, but they aren’t totally infallible. Luckily, a broken tooth can nearly always be repaired.
If your tooth has chipped, cracked or broken, pick up any pieces that have broken off and wrap them in a clean, damp cloth so that you can take them to your emergency dental appointment. Then call our team and explain the situation, and we will get you in to repair your tooth as quickly as possible.
If you’ve lost a permanent tooth but it is healthy and in good condition, there is a chance that it could be re-implanted if you handle the situation correctly.
If you can find your missing tooth, pick it up carefully but not by the root as this needs to be kept intact if the tooth is to be re-implanted. Rinse it in lukewarm salt water, and either place it between your cheek and jaw to keep it moist or in a small container of milk. Then contact our emergency dental team to ask about an urgent appointment.
Whatever your dental emergency, our Crouch End dentistry team is here to give you the reassurance and care that you need.
Our dedicated team has decades of experience, ensuring that there is no emergency that they can’t handle. Contact us today to schedule your emergency dental appointment.
